New Trades Out 15/10/2014

After all the commotion of the last few weeks things quieten down a little (for myself at least,) this Wednesday. Not a single trade from Image, which is probably for the best seeing as I still have Revival volume 4 and Prophet volume 1 to read. I think I'll get another Marvel trade after enjoying Magneto so much last week

Marvel are definitely the busiest publishers for this week and they have some great books out as well. I'll be picking up ASM volume 1. It has been a few years since I was able to add the latest Amazing Spider-Man trade to the shelf. Collects #1-6. Another book worth starting from volume 1 is Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's second run on Daredevil, some of us have to get a move on and finish off the last run first though. Marvels Oversized Hardcovers

Outwith collecting hardcovers and paperback, another way to collect your favourite Marvel ongoing series is with their over sized HC's. Usually a year after the paperbacks and containing 2-4 story arcs these books are often very affordable compared to the equivalent number of paperbacks. For myself this means I can concentrate my money on other runs that are less likely to be collected in this format.

They are a pleasure to read, The larger pages beautifully display the artwork inside, (although in the case of the Matt Fraction, Uncanny X-Men OHC's, this also means more of Greg Lands art.) Well put together and bound they sit open perfectly on your lap and there's no gutter loss.

Some of my favourite so far include:

Invincible Iron Man Oversized HC, Volume 1

Fraction/Larroca

Issues #1-19

Daredevil by Mark Waid. Volume 1

Waid/Rivera/Martin/Rios/Kano/Pham.

Issues #1-10, 10.1; Amazing Spider-Man (1963) 677

X-Force Volume 1.

Kyle/Yost/Crain.

Issues #1-11.

Spider-Man: Big Time Ultimate Collection.

Slott/Ramos.

Issues #648-662 & 654.1

Captain America: The Death of Captain America: The Complete Collection.

Brubaker/Epting.

Issues 22-42, Winter Soldier: Winter Kills.

The OHC I'm most looking forward to?

Hawkeye Oversized HC.

Fraction/Aja.

Issues #1-11, Young Avengers Presents 6

Shelf Porn

Today shelf porn comes via Craig Marklow. @Marklow_man on Twitter. He stresses that it is not an up to date photo, however it's a collection to be proud of in my opinion. It is probably the most balanced between publishers submission we have had yet on SP. Great to see someone else who has as much love for Vertigo as me. If you're new to collecting TPB's and want to make sure you start your collection well, basically pick any volume 1 from the following.

Transmetropolitan

Fables

Scalped

Sandman

DMZ

Y the last man

Preacher

My picks from the shelf would be Y, Wolverine: Weapon X, Watchmen and the Ultimate Spider-Man HC's.
