After all the commotion of the last few weeks things quieten down a little (for myself at least,) this Wednesday. Not a single trade from Image, which is probably for the best seeing as I still have Revival volume 4 and Prophet volume 1 to read. I think I'll get another Marvel trade after enjoying Magneto so much last week

Marvel are definitely the busiest publishers for this week and they have some great books out as well. I'll be picking up ASM volume 1. It has been a few years since I was able to add the latest Amazing Spider-Man trade to the shelf. Collects #1-6. Another book worth starting from volume 1 is Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's second run on Daredevil, some of us have to get a move on and finish off the last run first though. Collecting #0, #0.5 & #1-5.

A relatively quiet week of releases is made up for by one trade I really want today. In the last couple of weeks I have chewed my way through a tonne of books so I'm hoping to get some reviews up soon.

At 96 pages it's not the meatiest deluxe edition I've ever seen but for only £7.50 I would say it is definitely worth picking up this zombie horror from Keith Giffen and Kody Chamberlain. Collects #1-3, this highly original concept sees victims tagged with an ancient curse of death and rotting that they must either endure or pass on. I'm in!

Don't spend a penny on Bendis' GotG volume 2 if you haven't picked up the reprinting of Abnett & Lanning's seminal run that was just released a few weeks back. Not that the new title is awful, the A&L stuff is just a much wiser investment. If you're a fan of Marvel's new Epic Collections then this week it is the time for one of the most famous and over told origin stories in comic book history. THe Amazing Spider-Man: Great Power EC collects ASM #1-#17, Annual #1 and as always, material from Amazing Fantasy #15 (which I already have in 50 other TPB bonus material collections.)

Gravel is one of the lesser known titles from the glory days of Warren Ellis birthing books like a rabbit. Returning now under the superb penmanship of Mike Wolfer who did a great job on Avatar's Stitched, firstly on art duties for Garth Ennis and then taking over as write on volume 2. This book collects #1-4 as well as a reintroduction to the main man Bill Gravel. Hopefully this will mean an omnibus in the offing as the original series can prove difficult to complete in trades. As for the story itself? Well it had me at "SAS Combat Mage."

A few Marvel Now titles finally make it to paperback this week, as always costing way too much. I mentioned a few weeks ago the infinity omnibus featuring all the Avengers tie ins so make sure you check that out before going for individual trades. The Adventures of Cyclops and Pheonix is an impressive collection that I'm surprised didn't get a release around AvX. It includes: Adventures of Cyclops and Pheonix #1-4. Askani'son #1-4. From behind-the-scenes interviews, scores of pages of the original pencil art, notes from the writer on development of the story, to an epic cover gallery, this is not to be missed. But all that extra material is only available right here, this edition of 5000 copies, and the Remarqued edition of 350 copies offered this month, are the only editions Previews will offer. Then it's gone. This Enhanced HC will not be reprinted. Uber Vol 1 collection in paperback will be released in 2014, with the full 176 pages of story. Charlie Adlard gets his own art book from Image to celebrate 100 issues on Walking Dead  Mind The Gap by Jim McCann reaches its 3rd volume in Paperback. 

 

The first Volume of Marvel Zombies omnibus reprinting is also out today, if you have been waiting for a chance to read it then volume 1 collects.  ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #21-23 and #30-32, MARVEL ZOMBIES #1-5, MARVEL ZOMBIES: DEAD DAYS, BLACK PANTHER (2005) #28-30, and material from MARVEL SPOTLIGHT: MARVEL ZOMBIES/MYSTIC ARCANA.

The first pattern I've noticed doing this is that everyone has some Walking Dead in their collections. These big HC's look great displayed and usually contain double the issues of a standard trade, suiting the un-putdownable nature of the series.

The Marvel Masterworks HC's are reprintings of classic arcs, released in the UK and are going to look incredible when completed.

Asked what his favourite item on shelf was Ceej said It was between his copy of Hush and Infinity Gauntlet book signed by Jim Starlin.
